We are a network of designers, builders, creators and lovers of life primarily lead  by Will Schebaum.  It is one of our driving passions to listen and understand you and your goals in order to create a healthy, happy and beautiful home that is unique to you and your lifestyle. The process of design is a collaborative effort of hearts, hopes and minds as well as budgets, timelines and spreadsheets.

Years of integrated design/build experience has crafted our process to be respectful of the designer/client relationship and the process of discovery as we watch the design unfold.  Taking your dreams and ideas and transforming them into reality is no small feat and will require teamwork, patience, clear communication, creativity and honesty among others. Working from concept to completion we aim to integrate principles of intelligent design, quality craftsmanship, environmental balance and aesthetic awareness into a cohesive whole that soothes the soul while keeping an eye on the details that count as well as the budget.

Whether you have a small renovation or a large new home in mind, we can help you in any and all phases of the design process and on into the construction as well. Having formerly been a design build general contracting company, Threshold has a solid foundation in understanding how buildings go together from the ground up.  Hands on experience from building all manner of homes to managing the facilities of a state of the art 25,000 sqft commercial food cooperative gives us a unique perspective on how buildings work as well as look.  Filtering that experience through your unique design program will yield a beautiful and enduring home for you now and into the future!

Will approaches the world of design from a multi faceted vantage point.  After studying whole systems philosophy, music and comparative religion at the University of Vermont, Will immersed himself in the Vermont building scene.  With Liszt Historical Restoration, he worked on numerous Vermont landmarks such as the Vermont State House, Chittenden Superior Courthouse, Vermont History Center as well as many classic homes, country barns and  other notable landmark buildings.  After founding, recording and touring with the Burlington VT band , Manifest Nexto Me, Will then became immersed in the world of facilities management at City Market’s flagship store in downtown Burlington. There he engaged in whole building thinking and initiated various efficiency measures such as their rooftop solar array.  A growing awareness of the ecological reality and humanity’s place in the larger biosphere helped curate a new path in residential carpentry. Working with a number of esteemed Burlington firms such as Red House Building and VanDusen & Co. eventually led to a design/build internship at Yestermorrow Design+Build School.  This pivotal event was critical in Will’s migration from a Burlington centric life to one based in his current hometown of Montpelier.  Upon arriving in Montpelier in 2009 will created Steeplechase Design& Build which operated for a number of years designing and building in the greater Winooski River watershed.  Will also spent 5 years volunteering on the Montpelier Develop Review Board in addition to his local design/build pursuits.  Ten years later saw the creation of Threshold Building and Design which over the course of a few years evolved into the Threshold Design of today.  When not in the office, Will spends his time with his wonderful family, a piano, bike or the silence in the woods.
